The Bakgoni Social Entrepreneurship Programme is a transformative initiative by Bakone Development Agency, implemented in partnership with the University of Johannesburg’s Community Engagement division. Launched in 2023, the programme is designed to equip women entrepreneurs and leaders of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) with the skills and tools needed to scale their ventures and create meaningful socio-economic impact. The partnership leverages UJ’s intellectual and project-based resources alongside Bakone’s expertise in entrepreneurship development, ensuring participants receive tailored training, mentorship, and development opportunities.

Since its inception, the programme has successfully trained over 120 women entrepreneurs and leaders from various CBOs operating in Johannesburg communities. These women, many of whom manage small businesses, have gained critical skills in business management, leadership, and innovation, empowering them to grow their organisations and contribute to local economic development. Through this impactful partnership, the Bakgoni Social Entrepreneurship Programme continues to drive inclusive growth and uplift communities in Johannesburg.
